433 volunteers of all ages helped get 2017 off to a great start by packaging 106,680 Nutri-Plenty™ meals – the most meals ever packaged in January!
Participating groups included: Resurrection Lutheran Church, Lost Boys of Sudan Birthday Celebration, Enterprise Rentals, Bardstown Rotary Club, The Temple MLK Day Interfaith Service Event, St. Aloysius 8th Grade Youth, Bellarmine University, and Harrison County, IN.
Many of the meals will be included in a shipment to Mali, Africa in partnership with Supplies Over Seas. In Mali, a high percentage of children suffer from chronic undernourishment and related illnesses.Read More
150 Volunteers at two packaging sessions dedicated 90 minutes of service on MLK Day to produce more than 33,000 Nutri-Plenty™ meals. The Bardstown Rotary Club and student volunteers from local schools partnered for the fifth straight year at Bethlehem High School and The Temple hosted their fourth annual interfaith service project. A portion of the meals will benefit local families through Feeding America-Kentucky’s Heartland and The House of Ruth. More than 27,000 meals will be included in an upcoming shipment of medical aid to Mali, Africa.

Packaging teams included the Lexington Muslim Community, Shelbyville Rotary Club/West Middle School, Rotary Club of Louisville, Muhammad Ali Center, UPS, Kentucky AmeriCorps, Prichard Elementary School, and First Baptist Church – Grayson, KY. The October total was Love the Hungry’s highest monthly output in 2016.
Packaging efforts have been centered on providing much-needed food aid to Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. More than 20,000 meals were delivered to St. Boniface Hospital in partnership with Supplies Over Seas. Love the Hungry is providing 235,000 Nutri-Plenty™ meals to Southwest Haiti in response to the devastation left in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. With the help of Louisville-based Supplies Over Seas, 20,000 meals were included in a shipment of medical supplies that will benefit St. Boniface Hospital in Fond-des-Blancs, Haiti. An additional 215,000 meals are being distributed through the Mission of Hope/HaitiOne network.

September 15th is Give Local Louisville Day – a 24-hour online giving event that helps more than 600 local nonprofits raise awareness and dollars to support their missions. Love the Hungry will designate all proceeds from Give Local Louisville to purchase three high-efficiency cookstoves. The stoves will be included in an upcoming shipment of humanitarian aid to South Sudan.
