The Summer of 2021 has recharged the mission to provide life-changing nutrition to children and families vulnerable to hunger. Most importantly, Love the Hungry has met urgent needs for nutritious meals by providing Nutri-Plenty® servings to partnering organizations in Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Liberia, and the U.S./Puerto Rico. More than 150 volunteers from across the U.S. helped kick off the 39th Biennial LWML Convention on Thursday, June 24 with a day of service. Working in small-group teams at the Lexington Convention Center, volunteers produced 32,742 fortified Nutri-Plenty® servings that were donated to Orphan Grain Train – Indiana. The meals will provide nourishment to children and families most vulnerable to hunger in rural eastern Kentucky and Haiti.

On June 2nd, volunteers at Cummins Sales and Service helped Love the Hungry surpass 7,000,000 total meals packaged! Need help putting this into perspective? 7,000,000 meals would feed a capacity crowd at Cardinal Stadium 127 times! Most importantly, in the 27 countries (including the U.S.) where meals have been delivered, children and families have received the nourishment needed for a healthier tomorrow. 40,000+ volunteers of all ages have played a role in multiplying the meals. Working in teams of eleven, volunteers of all ages are multiplying the meals each week at the Love the Hungry Packaging Center. With strict attention to CDC guidelines and a newly-configured packaging process, small groups are assured of a safe, socially-distanced environment that can produce thousands of Nutri-Plenty® servings in less than 90 minutes. In January, small groups packaged 20,232 fortified meals.

By now, you’ve heard words describing 2020 over and over again. Challenging. Unprecedented. A new normal. Global pandemic.

As our team reflects on 2020, we choose to emphasize the word “thankful.” Thankful for the transition to small-group events that enabled 1,341 volunteers of all ages to safely participate in packaging sessions. Thankful for the 316,488 Nutri-Plenty servings created throughout the year despite a limited event schedule. Thankful for the 607,834 nutritious meals that were delivered to children and families in eight countries, including 100,000 meals to agencies throughout Kentuckiana and the United States. Thankful for the individual donors and community organizations that entrust us with their dollars to multiply the meals.

As the new year begins, we’re committed to evaluating the changing circumstances that surround us and to making the adjustments that will enable an even greater level of participation in the mission to deliver nourishment and hope to those vulnerable to hunger. We can’t delay. Please join us.

In order for Love the Hungry’s mission to be complete, our fortified meals must reach children and families vulnerable to hunger. In our largest monthly distribution of 2020, more than 200,000 Nutri-Plenty® servings were distributed to the following partners:

— Nile Orphan Care (South Sudan) 145,000

— Children’s Lifeline (Haiti) 43,000

— Thankful Hearts Food Pantry (Pikeville, KY) 13,000

— Orphan Grain Train (San Benito, TX Outreach) 7,500

The massive explosion in the port of Beirut, Lebanon displaced more than 300,000 people and severely damaged infrastructure for miles. At the request of Hearts in Motion, a nonprofit organization based in NW Indiana, Love the Hungry provided 15,000 fortified Nutri-Plenty meals and 56 hand-quilted blankets. The essential items are included in a shipment of humanitarian aid being coordinated by Hearts in Motion.

The slowdown in the global economy has deepened the hunger crisis in regions already vulnerable to food insecurity. Love the Hungry is engaging small-group volunteer teams to help meet the growing demand for fortified Nutri-Plenty meals. In just 90 minutes, your team of nine volunteers can produce enough Nutri-Plenty servings to feed ninety children for an entire month! Volunteers will work in a safe, sanitized environment, with the appropriate spacing requirements. Now more than ever, hunger will not end without your help. In the midst of a global pandemic, more and more children and families throughout the world are vulnerable to hunger. After 90 days of suspending packaging sessions, Love the Hungry is re-engaging volunteers in our mission to end hunger by inviting small groups to help produce fortified Nutri-Plenty meals. Special attention is given to making sure your team of 9 – 11 volunteers will work in a safe environment, including a reconfigured packaging line that meets spacing guidelines.
