UPS Volunteers Multiply the Meals

UPS new hire pilots and other team members joined forces to package more than 26,000 Nutri-Plenty servings. 15,000 meals will be included in a shipment of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and a portion of the meals will also be designated to assist the underserved in the city of Louisville. UPS and Love the Hungry are partnering throughout 2022 for recurring monthly service projects that will result in more than 100,000 total meals for children and families most vulnerable to hunger throughout the world.

Louisville Task Force Supports Ukraine

Local Students Help Feed Ukraine Refugees

More than 100 student volunteers from St. Aloysius, Immaculate Conception, St. Margaret Mary, St. Patrick, and Sacred Heart Academy packaged 23,760 Nutri-Plenty® servings that will provide humanitarian aid to children and families fleeing war in Ukraine. The fortified meals are being donated to Operation Ukraine, a nonprofit organization with more than 20 years of experience working in Ukraine, and will likely be delivered to Poland to assist refugees. An additional 50,000 servings are being provided by Love the Hungry.

Bardstown Rotary reaches milestone!

Since 2013, the Bardstown Rotary Club and local high school students have commemorated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by partnering with Love the Hungry to package fortified meals for children and families vulnerable to hunger. On January 17th, forty-eight volunteers produced 20,154 Nutri-Plenty® servings – resulting in a grand total of more than 215,000 total meals packaged through ten annual service events! Only four other regional organizations have produced more meals since Love the Hungry was launched in 2012.

A portion of the fortified meals packaged in 2022 were donated to the disaster response efforts in Bowling Green, KY to assist families impacted by the December tornado outbreak.

September volunteers produce 68,000 Nutri-Plenty® servings!

More than 500 volunteers participated in Love the Hungry packaging sessions during the month of September – producing 68,166 fortified meals! St. Peter’s Lutheran School (Columbus, IN) engaged students grades K-8 in a day-long service project that generated 30,000+ meals. The numbers were also boosted by teams from Middletown Christian Church, Louisville Bourbon Club, Sacred Heart Academy, and Calvary Christian Center.

Love the Hungy, SOS, and WaterStep deliver aid to Haiti

In the wake of Haiti’s devastating earthquake, local nonprofits SOS, WaterStep and Love the Hungry worked together to quickly deliver aid to those suffering from damage and loss. The shipment, which arrived just days after the earthquake occured, included medical supplies, water purification equipment, and 30,000 fortified Nutri-Plenty® meals. Our thanks to UPS for coordinating shipping logistics. Reach Out America, a disaster response NGO, is providing oversight for identifying needs and distributing supplies where they can have the greatest impact.

Small-Group Summer Makes BIG Impact

The Summer of 2021 has recharged the mission to provide life-changing nutrition to children and families vulnerable to hunger. 32,000 Nutri-Plenty® Servings Packaged at LWML Convention

More than 150 volunteers from across the U.S. helped kick off the 39th Biennial LWML Convention on Thursday, June 24 with a day of service. Working in small-group teams at the Lexington Convention Center, volunteers produced 32,742 fortified Nutri-Plenty® servings that were donated to Orphan Grain Train – Indiana. The meals will provide nourishment to children and families most vulnerable to hunger in rural eastern Kentucky and Haiti.

On June 2nd, volunteers at Cummins Sales and Service helped Love the Hungry surpass 7,000,000 total meals packaged! Need help putting this into perspective? 7,000,000 meals would feed a capacity crowd at Cardinal Stadium 127 times! Most importantly, in the 27 countries (including the U.S.) where meals have been delivered, children and families have received the nourishment needed for a healthier tomorrow. 40,000+ volunteers of all ages have played a role in multiplying the meals. Small Groups Help Launch The New Year

Working in teams of eleven, volunteers of all ages are multiplying the meals each week at the Love the Hungry Packaging Center. With strict attention to CDC guidelines and a newly-configured packaging process, small groups are assured of a safe, socially-distanced environment that can produce thousands of Nutri-Plenty® servings in less than 90 minutes. In January, small groups packaged 20,232 fortified meals.

In February, packaging teams are scheduled every Saturday beginning at 10 AM. Additional opportunities are available for weekday teams. To learn more, contact Love the Hungry at 502-459-9199 or info@lovethehungry.org.
