More than 100 student volunteers from St. Aloysius, Immaculate Conception, St. Margaret Mary, St. Patrick, and Sacred Heart Academy packaged 23,760 Nutri-Plenty® servings that will provide humanitarian aid to children and families fleeing war in Ukraine. The fortified meals are being donated to Operation Ukraine, a nonprofit organization with more than 20 years of experience working in Ukraine, and will likely be delivered to Poland to assist refugees. An additional 50,000 servings are being provided by Love the Hungry.

Since 2013, the Bardstown Rotary Club and local high school students have commemorated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by partnering with Love the Hungry to package fortified meals for children and families vulnerable to hunger. On January 17th, forty-eight volunteers produced 20,154 Nutri-Plenty® servings – resulting in a grand total of more than 215,000 total meals packaged through ten annual service events! Only four other regional organizations have produced more meals since Love the Hungry was launched in 2012.

In the wake of Haiti’s devastating earthquake, local nonprofits SOS, WaterStep and Love the Hungry worked together to quickly deliver aid to those suffering from damage and loss. The shipment, which arrived just days after the earthquake occured, included medical supplies, water purification equipment, and 30,000 fortified Nutri-Plenty® meals. More than 150 volunteers from across the U.S. helped kick off the 39th Biennial LWML Convention on Thursday, June 24 with a day of service. Working in small-group teams at the Lexington Convention Center, volunteers produced 32,742 fortified Nutri-Plenty® servings that were donated to Orphan Grain Train – Indiana. Working in teams of eleven, volunteers of all ages are multiplying the meals each week at the Love the Hungry Packaging Center. With strict attention to CDC guidelines and a newly-configured packaging process, small groups are assured of a safe, socially-distanced environment that can produce thousands of Nutri-Plenty® servings in less than 90 minutes. In January, small groups packaged 20,232 fortified meals.
